Ohio Amish Harvest September 06 - 10, 2010 $699 Double 9 Meals It's been a long time since we all boarded the bus together, knowing we were in for fun-filled days, lots of surprises and time with some of the nicest people on earth - Star Tours' passengers. Come join us on this "Invitation Only Reunion Trip" to one of Larry's favorite destinations; the Amish Country of Ohio, the largest Amish community in the world. Imagine the clip clop of horses' hooves on country roads, friends gathering around a quilt in progress, a bountiful table set with a 'made from scratch' meal. What a welcome break from a high tech society! You and your favorite travelers from past journeys can experience all this as these 'plain people' welcome you into their wonderful world. Day 1 - This morning we load the motorcoach for a tour back in time. Shortly after the last pickup we will have a fast food breakfast stop. We travel through the mountains of Virginia and West Virginia with a rest stop at West Virginia's cultural and folk arts center, Tamarack. We will cross the Ohio River and in to Holmes County, Ohio for all four nights at The Inn at Amish Door This hotel is filled with hand-crafted furniture and is like spending nights in your grandmother's Victorian home. Waht a treat! This evening we will hae a get acquainted dinner. Day 2 - Right after breakfast, we will have a local guide meet us for a tour of the country side. We will be making stops along the way at such places as Heine’s Cheese Wheels and an Amish bakery. You can taste their cheese products in sample trays all over the store. We will learn about the history and beliefs of the Amish and Mennonite people. We will also see the magnificent draft horses at work in the fields gathering in the harvest. Tonight we are welcomed into an Amish family’s home for dinner. Day 3 - This morning after breakfast, we travel to the Mt. Hope Livestock Auction. This is the perfect place to see the Amish people as they live day to day. The men will be selling horses and cattle, while the boys sell chickens, rabbits and sheep at the same time. Women and girls run a produce auction. We will also visit Lehman's Hardware where the Amish purchase non--electrical appliances, refrigerators, hand water pumps, wooden barrels, pickle kegs, and grain mills. It is a unique, one of a kind place! This evening we will have some free time to shop in the quaint little town of Berlin. Day 4 – On Thursday we will change the pace a bit as we travel to the "new" old city of Cleveland. We'll tour the revitalized stareets of one of America's tru pillars. Then it's off to the Arcade for lunch, the oldest shopping mall in the US, built in 1890 with 2 nine story towers and a 100 foot glass skylight ceiling. This afternoon, put on your "Doo-Wop" shoes as we visit the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with free time to see all your favorite entertainers. Day 5 – Before leaving this beautiful countryside, we head out to Warther's Carvings. Trains were Ernest Warther's fascination and you can see a lot of them carved here in minute detail. There is no way to describe this museum without seeing it for yourself. Someone from Ernest's family will show us around to see the ebony and ivory carvings. Then we have to say goodbye to the Amish country with lots of fond memories. We should arrive home early evening. $100 Deposit - Balance Due 30 Days Prior
